Meetings with Members of Parliament

In the lead up to World TB Day this year, the Stop TB Canada Network, in collaboration with Results Canada and other partners, met with several Members of Parliament (MP) to discuss the TB epidemic. These meetings presented a great opportunity to educate MPs about TB, as well as gain their support in generating the political will to enact meaningful change. Throughout these meetings, the network emphasized our domestic and global asks, which include urging Canada to:

  • update the epidemiologic data on TB in Canada

  • maintain its investment in TB REACH by committing CAD$85 million over five years.

  • commit the missing US$6 million from its fair share target of dedicating 0.1% of its total research spending to TB research.

We thank all of the MPs who took the time to meet with us and look forward to further developing our relationships. We appreciate the actions that were taken for World TB Day, such as voicing your support on social media and sharing our letters to Minister Hajdu and Minister Gould. Despite World TB Day now behind us, the work is far from over. The network is looking forward to continuing these important conversations and pushing
